Thilagavathi “Kutti” Murugesan has been a full-time university mathematics lecturer for the past ten years. After achieving top scores in pre-university statewide exams and distinctions for her B.Sc. in Mathematics, Kutti moved from her home in Southern India to the U.S. to further her education and professional experiences. She received her Master’s degree in Mathematics from Brigham Young University, and then taught as a full-time Mathematics Instructor at prestigious institutions such as South Dakota State University, University of Minnesota-Duluth, Colorado State University-Pueblo and Utah Valley University. She has taught many undergraduate mathematics courses, ranging from Beginning Algebra to Survey of Calculus.
Kutti has reviewed the textbook College Algebra by Kaufmann and participated in writing a chapter for another textbook. She has also hosted STEM lab activities for middle and high school students, published newsletters, and served on a campus life committee, textbook committee, math week committee and newsletter committee. She has participated in several university related activities such as Math Day, Campus Preview Sessions, College Board Validity Study, Math Counts, Sonya Kovalevsky Day, Word Problems Workshop, Family Fun Festival and EYH conference. She has recently been awarded the GEL Quick Grant and finished her project, “Addressing Difficulties of College Students in Solving Math Word Problems.”
Her passions are teaching, aiding students to succeed in math, creating math e-books and videos, and promoting digital learning to improve the economy.
